Lishan
Floral, creamy, vegetal with sharp acidity. Among the most prestigious Taiwanese high-mountain oolongs.
Lishan is among the most prestigious tea-producing regions in Taiwan. The high-altitude central mountain location — production runs from 1800m to over 2600m on the highest farms — produces sharp temperature swings, frequent fog and cloud cover, and slow tea bush growth that concentrates cup character. Lishan oolong is typically lightly oxidized (about 20-30%) and minimally roasted, emphasizing fresh floral and creamy character over the developed roast notes of traditional Wuyi yancha or Anxi traditional Tieguanyin.
The most sought-after Lishan productions come from above 2400m: Dayuling (大禹岭), Fushou Shan (福寿山), and the various high-elevation gardens collectively known as "Lishan." Pricing reflects the geographic constraints; tea farms at these elevations are physically limited in number and harvest yields are modest. For serious Taiwanese high-mountain oolong drinkers, Lishan represents the upper price tier and the most concentrated character.
