Ceylon Nuwara Eliya
Delicate, floral, almost like a quality Darjeeling. The most refined Sri Lankan tea.
Nuwara Eliya is Sri Lanka's highest tea-producing region — production extends to 2000m on the slopes around the eponymous town in the central highlands. The elevation, cool year-round climate, and slow tea bush growth produce cup character unlike any other Sri Lankan region: delicate, floral, almost reminiscent of quality Darjeeling rather than the more robust style most Ceylon associations conjure. Drinkers who find typical Ceylon too heavy often find Nuwara Eliya more accessible.
The dry-season harvests (February-March in Sri Lanka's climate cycle) produce the regional peak quality. The colonial-era infrastructure remains evident in Nuwara Eliya — the area was developed by the British as a hill station and tea-producing region, and the architecture, climate, and aesthetic still reflect that history. The combination of refined cup character and dramatic mountain landscape has made Nuwara Eliya a destination for both tea drinkers and broader Sri Lankan tourism.
