Anxi is the origin of Tieguanyin (Iron Goddess of Mercy) — one of the most internationally recognized Chinese oolongs. The Fujian county's mountain terrain, subtropical climate, and four-season harvest cycle produce structurally rich tea material that the Anxi processing tradition transforms into the distinctive Tieguanyin cup character: floral orchid notes, creamy sweetness, and the pronounced lingering aftertaste that defines authentic Tieguanyin.

Within Anxi, Xiping (西坪) is the traditional production heartland — the original area where Tieguanyin cultivation developed and where the most prestigious heritage productions still come from. Modern Anxi production is dominated by green-style (lightly oxidized, minimally roasted) Tieguanyin emphasizing fresh floral character, but traditional roasted-style production persists with smaller specialty producers. The Anxi tea markets in downtown Anxi serve substantial wholesale function for the broader Fujian tea industry. Direct producer visits are possible during harvest seasons with advance arrangement. Anxi is more remote and less visitor-prepared than Wuyishan or Hangzhou; specialty tea travelers should arrange visits through established Anxi-focused operations or specialty tea tour services.
